Scout Terra release date

Two calendars: Scout’s, and the forecasters’.

The honest answer to “when does the Scout truck come out” is that there are two answers, and they are two and a half years apart. Scout says 2027 production and 2028 deliveries. A production-forecasting firm says 2028 for the SUV and 2030 for the pickup. Here is each one, with every date and who said it, so you can decide what to believe.

The record

Every date, in order

  • March 2023Scout announces the Blythewood, South Carolina plant: $2 billion, 200,000 vehicles a year, more than 4,000 jobs.
  • October 24, 2024The Terra and Traveler are revealed in Nashville. Reservations open at $100, refundable. Production is described as starting in 2027.
  • January 2025Scout passes 50,000 reservations; CEO Scott Keogh says more than half chose the Harvester.
  • February 2026Der Spiegel reports technical problems that could push the Traveler to 2028. Scout says on its forum that it is making good progress and does not confirm dates.
  • April 2026AutoForecast Solutions, in a report covered by Motor1, Jalopnik and others, forecasts Traveler production in 2028 and Terra production in March 2030. Scout says it has not spoken with the firm and stands by 2027 production and 2028 deliveries.
  • October 2026Keogh tells InsideEVs and the BloombergNEF Summit that reservations exceed 150,000, about 85 percent are Harvester, the Harvester versions will launch first, and the first vehicles are expected in late 2027.

How to read it

What a buyer should plan on

Scout’s dates come from the company that has to hit them, and it has repeated them under direct questioning as recently as October 2026. The forecaster’s dates come from a firm whose business is predicting plant schedules for suppliers, which has no reason to flatter Scout and no inside line either. Both have been wrong before about other programs.

What is not in dispute: the plant is still under construction, validation trucks are being built, and no customer has one. Even on Scout’s own calendar, the first pickups reach customers in 2028, and the battery-only Terra follows the Harvester, so a battery-only Terra is later still.

If you need a pickup before then, you are choosing among trucks that exist. The R1T comparison covers the electric one; the drive it page covers the gas trucks built the way the Terra is, and where to drive them for a day.

Questions

Questions people ask

When does the Scout Terra come out?

Scout’s stated plan: initial production in 2027 at Blythewood, South Carolina, with validation vehicles built through 2026 and 2027 and customers taking delivery in 2028. The Harvester extended-range versions launch first. CEO Scott Keogh said in October 2026 that the first trucks are expected in late 2027.

Has the Scout Terra been delayed?

Yes, once officially: the trucks were first described as 2026 vehicles and are now 2027 production. Beyond that, a production-forecasting firm, AutoForecast Solutions, reported in April 2026 that the Traveler would slip to 2028 and the Terra to March 2030. Scout said it had not spoken with the firm and had nothing to add beyond its own timing.

Which comes first, the Terra or the Traveler?

Scout has not said publicly which body style is first, only that the Harvester versions of each launch before the battery-only versions. The third-party forecast has the Traveler SUV first, by about a year and a half.

What model year will the first Scout Terra be?

Scout has not stated a model year. With deliveries in 2028, the first trucks would most likely be 2028 models, which is how Consumer Reports lists it.

Is the Blythewood plant built?

It is under construction. Scout announced the $2 billion site in March 2023 with capacity for 200,000 vehicles a year and more than 4,000 jobs, and suppliers have begun opening plants in the adjoining supplier park. Scout’s production teams work from temporary offices in Columbia until it is complete.

Should I reserve now or wait?

The reservation is $100 and refundable, so reserving costs nothing but the float. If you want a Terra at all, there is no reason to wait to reserve; there is every reason not to plan your life around a delivery date.

The Carolina Auto Program puts you in a Jeep Gladiator, a Ram 1500 Rebel or a Silverado Trail Boss for five and a half hours on the Carova 4x4 beach on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, no salesperson aboard, for $325. Then a no-haggle price in writing from a program dealer. If you want to know what a body-on-frame truck with lockers does in soft sand before the Terra ships, that is the closest thing there is.
